a mini ikea hack

Presley’s big girl room.  Who knew it would be so hard to find a longer, shorter dresser with plenty of storage.  I searched and searched for the perfect vintage dresser we could paint and make perfect.  It just seemed like every dresser I found had such shallow drawers.  I needed something that was able to hold all of her clothes plus some random storage for art supplies, games, etc.  Finally I gave up and hopped on the Ikea train.  We ended up getting the Tarva 6-drawer chest, great price, solid wood and lots of storage.  Instead of the drawer pulls that come with it we switched them out for these Martha Stewart brass pulls and I painted it white.  The only part of the dresser I’m not loving is the leg situation… trying to come up with something sneaky to do in that department.

    • Thanks Ashley! I used Benjamin Moore Advance Waterborne Interior Alkyd. That’s a mouthful! :) I also used it on our kitchen table and it’s held up really great. You can seal it with a paste wax.

    • Elle- the finish is Satin. I found the pulls online at coolknobsandpulls.com and they are the Martha Stewart Living Bedford 3 in. Awning Cup Cabinet Hardware Pull. Hope that helps! :)

    • Hi Angie! The table and chairs (there’s actually two chairs) are actually from a local antique shop. They were originally pink and we had them repainted. If you happen to be local to Portland, OR you can find similar stuff at The Shabby Cottage in Oregon City. Hope that helps :)

  1. Have you thought about painting the legs + front piece connected to the legs gold to match the drawer pulls? I’ve see it done on a Tarva chest & it looked really nice.

  2. I also read on another Tarva hack that you can just leave the legs off. Which I think is totally cool. One lady who did that with the 3-drawer chest (used as nightstands), first left the legs off but later added small castors because of her floor vents.
